HUNT JANE (WHITTIER)|
79, of Cypress, died on Friday, November 22, 2013, at The Preston Health Center. She passed away peacefully with her husband and her nephew, Thomas R. Mooers, at her side. She moved to Hilton Head Island from Glenshaw, PA in 1993. Jane was born October 7, 1934, in Farmingdale, ME and was the daughter of the late Roland E. and Avis M. Forrester Whittier. She graduated from Gardiner Maine High School in 1952, Augusta Maine School of Business, Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in Education and a Master's degree through Penn State University. Jane was an elementary school teacher for 31 years. She taught in four states, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. She retired from teaching in 1993 from Burchfield Elementary School, Shaler Township, Pennsylvania. She married Charles W. Hunt on December 22, 1955 at the Winter Street Baptist Church in Gardiner, ME and he survives her. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Richard A. Hunt of Terre Haute, IN and Dale R. Hunt of Glen Carbon, IL; as well as 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roland L. Whittier and Edward D. Whittier; and two sisters, Eva Euten and Dorothy Mooers Eldridge. In 1962 to 1965, she lived in Turkey, where Charles was the Cost Engineer for Koppers Company during the construction of the first integrated steel mill built in that country. They were able to travel to several European countries while living in Turkey. Private burial will be in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.
