1921 - 2013 Obituary Condolences Gallery Flowers
91, of North Huntingdon, formerly of East Pittsburgh, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 in Golden Heights Personal Care Home in Penn Twp., with his daughters by his side. He was born October 24, 1921, in Whitaker, one of eight children of the late Joseph and Mary (Andreyko) Hreha. Joe was a member of St. Stephen's Byzantine Catholic Church in North Huntingdon. He was also a former member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in East Pittsburgh. He was employed by USS, Homestead Works. Joe enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens, meeting his friends for lunch and playing the PA lottery. For many years he served as treasurer for the former Slovak Social Club in East Pittsburgh. Joe was a WWII veteran serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret Krul Hreha in December of 2005. He was the last member of his immediate family. Joe is survived by three daughters, Adrienne (Barry) Frishof, Beverly (Tom) Dotten of North Huntingdon, and Denise (Jim) Smigielski of McCordsville, IN. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Jodi (Mike) Polczynski of North Huntingdon, Eric Dotten, Hailey (Rob) Silva of Florida, Joscelyn (Paul) Freund of Pittsburgh, Jordan Smigielski of California, Nicholas Smigielski of Tennessee, Nadia Smigielski of Turtle Creek. Joe's eyes would always light up and a big smile would appear on his face when he saw or thought about his great-grandchildren, Carli, Cameron, Joseph (CJ), Tyler, Eli, and Dylan. He'll sadly miss the birth of his sixth great-grandchild. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. A Liturgy will be held at St. Stephens Byzantine Catholic Church on Thursday at a time to be announced. Interment in Penn Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital or The ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, D.C. 20005.
