1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Of West Mifflin, age 90, on Friday, May 9, 2014. He was born March 20, 1924, in Brownsville, PA, the son of Zachary and Jane (Davis) David. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1943 after two years of college at the University of Pittsburgh. He went overseas as a PFC Combat Medic in the 69th Infantry Division in Germany, was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart for combat experiences. The 69th Division was the first American unit to link up with the Russians in April 1945. After his discharge in November 1945, he entered Dental School at the University of Pittsburgh and received his dental degree in 1950. Then he was called into service in the U.S. Air Force for the Korean War. He achieved the rank of captain, serving in Texas as a dental officer in the Air Force. He remained in the reserves 22 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1984. He was inducted into the Hall of Valor in 1988 for his award of the Silver Star medal. Later, Dr. David had a dental practice in McKeesport for 49 years. He was also an avid sports fan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret (Firkley) David; loving daughters, Janet David of West Mifflin, Donna (David) Greene of Fountain Valley, CA, and Susan (Gerald) Fisher of Johnstown, PA; he was the proud grandfather of Aaron Greene, Lauren Fisher, Garrett Fisher, and Bryant Fisher; his grandchildren were the highlight of his life; also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd David. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS, 412-531-4000. Friends welcome at 2630 West Liberty Avenue, Dormont, 15216, Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 3400 Dawson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
