Age 97, died peacefully, August 18, 2013, at his home in Ben Avon, surrounded by his family and friends. Marcus had a long career with United States Steel Corporation, including serving as Administrative Vice President – Accounting and then a financial vice president, when he retired at the age of 55. He joined U.S. Steel's American Steel & Wire Division operations in 1938 at Worcester, MA, as a trainee and later was transferred to Cleveland. In 1940, he moved to New York as a junior statistician, and in 1944, to Pittsburgh as assistant to statistics supervisor. Six years later Marc returned to New York as supervisor of U.S. Steel's statistics division, advancing in February, 1954, to assistant comptroller. In March 1958, he was appointed assistant vice president and continued in the capacity of assistant comptroller. A native of Reynoldsville, PA, Marc was educated in the public schools of Collingdale, PA, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, New York University and Duquesne University, where he received a law degree. Marcus was a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute, the Financial Executives Institute, the PA Bar Association, the National Association of Accountants, the Duquesne Club, the YMCA, and the Edgeworth Club. He was an Annual Member of the Community Chest of Allegheny County and served as Vice Chairman of its Agency Operations Committee. During his retirement Marc devoted his time to his family, friends, pets, gardening, and music. He played drums and sang in a band through age 97. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (deceased), his first wife, and of Juliana (deceased), his second wife. He was the dearly loved father of his children, John, Carl (deceased), Barbara (deceased), Sarah and Emma. He was a cherished grandfather and great- grandfather. Marc was a friend to all and will be truly missed.
