Obituary Condolences

Age 90, of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Fox Chapel, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Beloved wife of 66 years to Samuel M. Bell; loving mother of Samuel (Deborah) Bell of Lower Burrell, John (Janice) Bell of Fox Chapel, and Thomas (Susan) Bell of New York, NY; cherished grandmother of Andrew, Adam, Sarah, Ian and Aubrienne. Martha was born in Pittsburgh, where she spent her childhood, graduating from Peabody High School. She later received a BA degree from the University of Michigan, and ultimately received a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. During World War II, Martha proudly served in the Military, as part of a US Navy de-coding unit based in Washington, DC. Besides devoting herself to raising her 3 sons, Martha enjoyed playing tennis and paddle tennis, and was a proficient bridge player. She was also active in her local Garden Club. After her children grew up and left home, Martha became active in the Carnegie Museum of Art, serving as a Docent for a number of years, and was also a former member of The Women's Committee. Martha was a Charter Member and regular worshipper at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, a founding member of the Fox Chapel Racquet Club, a member of the Fox Chapel Golf Club, and was also a member of the Bald Head Island Club in North Carolina. No Visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 12 noon at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road. Arrangements by WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, Aspinwall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
