SALVATORE JOHN
Proprietor of Sal's Barber Shop on Brookline Blvd. for 65 years, on Thursday, February 20, 2014, age 92. Sal served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the 79th infantry division as an anti-tank gun crewman and participated in the Invasion of Normandy on D- Day, 1944. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was assigned to the Third Army and was one General George S. Patton's personal drivers. At the Battle of the Bulge, Sal was taken prisoner and was held as a prisoner of war for four and a half months. Sal was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart. He is the husband of the late Josephine; beloved father of Agnes and Sal (Lynn) Bondi; he is the grandfather of Joe (Jade) Fiore. Friends may call at THE FRANK F. DeBOR FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, INC., 1065 Brookline Blvd., 412-561-0380 MONDAY ONLY 2-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Assoc., 1000 Liberty Ave., Pgh., PA 15222.
