He was born April 4, 1924, in Idaho Falls to Gustaf Henry Johnson and Esther Marie Lanzen. He was a crane operator for Goodwin Builders, owned Johnson Excavating, and then worked for Heyrend Construction and Teton Crane.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as M-men and Gleaners leader, in several bishoprics and as a bishop and high counselor.

His hobbies were horses, fishing, hunting, gardening and working in his yard. He loved his family, the outdoors and people.
