Paul Albert Birch, 81, a resident of Phoenix and former resident of the St. Anthony area, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, in a Chandler, Ariz., hospital from natural causes.
Paul was born May 2, 1931, in Wilford, Idaho, the son of Albert Henry and Alice Taylor Birch. He was a farmer in the early years of his life. He grew up in the St. Anthony area, where he attended his schooling.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
He married Carol Reynolds on Jan. 30, 1963. They made their home in Wilford. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.
Paul served for the St. Anthony United States Postal Service for 28 years, retiring in 1992. He then moved to Phoenix, where he has since lived. In Arizona, he worked for 14 years for an automobile auction group driving cars. Paul enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, hiking, fishing and spending time with his family.
Paul is survived by his wife, Carol of Phoenix; six children, Brad (Carrie) Birch of Shelley, Darin (Kathy) Birch of Idaho Falls, Denise Birch of Phoenix, Devin (Marcie) Birch of San Diego, Dal (Sheryl) Birch of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Debi Birch of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Ronella Birch of Levan, Utah, and Norval Birch of St. Anthony.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, in the Wilford LDS church with Bishop Gene Clements officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Bidwell Funeral Home and Saturday at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Wilford Cemetery, where a military flag presentation will be presented.
