Robert LeRoy Adolfson Obituary

Robert LeRoy (Roy) Adolfson, 82, of Idaho Falls, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home.

He was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Shelley to Carl and Olga (Everett) Adolfson. He grew up in Firth and graduated from Firth High School in 1949, where he was student body president and participated in high school athletics.

On Sept. 17, 1950, he married Bertha Irene Roh at St. John's Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Roy spent over 40 years farming and raising dairy cows in Firth. In 1995, Roy and Bertha sold the farm and moved to Idaho Falls.

He had a passion for airplanes and had his private pilot's license at age 16. He was one of the pioneers of Red Baron RC Modelers Airplane Club and spent many years building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He enjoyed skiing, golfing and camping with his family, especially at Red Fish Lake and Bear Lake. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Firth for many years and later a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls.

Survivors include his six children, Terry (Debbie) Adolfson of Nampa, Laurie (Marty) Ballain of Idaho Falls, Bob (Crystal) Adolfson of Shelley, Becky (Steve) Miller of Brigham City, Utah, Scott Adolfson of Idaho Falls and Christy (John) Tenerowicz of Shelley; one sister, DeAune (Dee) Nelson of Idaho Falls; one brother, Ed Adolfson of Firth; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha, and his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 455 W. Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Larry Cudmore officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
