Samuel "Sam" Russell Bass, 28, the son of Russell and Karen Bass, was born in Coltman, Idaho, Sept. 11, 1984. He passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In elementary school, Sam attended schools in Apache Junction, Ariz., and after the family moved back to Idaho Falls, graduated from Bonneville High School in 2002.

Sam loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, and was very active in Royal Rangers through the Assemblies of God. He earned the highest award, the Gold Medal Achievement, and later became a Royal Ranger Commander in Colorado. Even though an Idaho boy through and through, Sam valued his Scottish heritage, often wearing his great kilt on many special occasions.

Upon graduating from Bonneville High School in 2002, he enlisted into the U.S. Army, earning the rank of sergeant. He honorably served and completed six years, which included three tours of duty in Iraq.

In December of 2008, he married his bride, Virginia Radulovich.

Sam is survived by his parents, Russell Jay and Karen Ann Bass of Idaho Falls; his wife, Virginia Bass; his son, Philip Russell; and his daughter, Haylie Renae Bass of Colorado Springs, Colo. He is also survived by his brothers and their families, Matthew and Danielle Bass of Pocatello, Andrew and Michele Bass of Elko, Nev., Peter and Michelle Bass of Brooks, Ore., and Josiah and Lettie Bass and Jeremiah Bass, all of Idaho Falls.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Cornerstone Assembly of God, 5600 S. Holmes Ave., in Idaho Falls.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cornerstone Assembly of God Royal Ranger program.
