Verl Harry Carpenter, 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at his home in Idaho Falls.
He was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Shelley to George Loren and Elizabeth Hannah Daw Carpenter. He is a graduate of Ammon High School. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain 5th Division, Company C, 86 Infantry in Italy, during World War II.
On Oct. 11, 1944, he married Colleen Drollinger in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She passed away Feb. 2, 1996.
He married Ramona Mickelsen in December 1996. She passed away Sept. 21, 2002.
He farmed in Osgood for 44 years and retired from farming in 1989. He then worked for the Osgood Canal Company until he retired in 1997.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in the bishopric, high council and as a temple worker. He served two church service missions. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and carpentry work.
He is survived by his daughter, Marian (Blair) Elkington; son, Val (Mary) Carpenter; and son, Ryan Carpenter, all of Idaho Falls; daughter, Jan Divine of Nampa, Idaho; daughter, Julie (Dale) Maughan of Provo, Utah; and daughter, Beverly Hansen of Springville, Utah; brothers, Wayne Carpenter, Doug Carpenter and Wendell Carpenter; sister, Rayola McBride; 26 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen; sons, Gary Carpenter and Donny Jay Carpenter; parents, Loren and Lizzy Carpenter; brothers, Vere Carpenter, Fred Carpenter and Edward Carpenter; and sister Jean Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, in the Virlow LDS building, 2349 Virlow St., by Falls Valley Elementary, with Bishop Dyorich officiating. The family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
