Vicki Claire Sherick Hawkesworth, 47, of Seneca, S.C., won her battle with cancer at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. She exuded a positive attitude and strength through all she endured, becoming a role model to all.
Vicki was born to Jack and Diane Sherick on July 13, 1966, in Idaho Falls.
Vicki was an elementary school teacher and was passionate about helping all children reach their potential. Her positive influence has touched hundreds of lives in many states. Most recently, she taught at Oakway Intermediate School in Westminster, S.C. Colleagues respected Vicki for her dedication, compassion, fairness and determination.
She loved family, traveling, Scouting and playing games. She traveled to 49 of the United States throughout her lifetime.
She married the love of her life, Scot Hawkesworth of Selden, N.Y., on Aug. 1, 1992, becoming a Navy wife. They lived in Idaho Falls, Uncasville, Conn., and St. Mary's, Ga., before making their home in Seneca, S.C. The role she cherished the most in life was that of Mom to their children, Jake and Rachel.
Vicki graduated from Butte High School in Montana in 1984, where she was active in student council and the tennis team. She earned a B.S. in elementary education from Montana State University in 1988. While in college, Vicki was engaged in several service organizations, holding leadership positions. As the president of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, she was recognized as the top president in the United States and Canada. In 2010, Vicki earned her Master's of Education in administration and supervision from Clemson University.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Scot; and children, Jake, 17, and Rachel, 16. She is also survived by her parents, Jack and Diane Sherick of Great Falls, Mont.; siblings, Mike (Susan) Sherick and Heidi Sherick (Erin Cech), Greg (Sherry) Hawkesworth, Kurt (Bahar) Hawkesworth and Katie Hawkesworth (Anthony) Santulli; and several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Mike and Arline Hawkesworth of Selden, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 170 Bountyland Road in Seneca, S.C., with a visitation at 10 a.m. and a reception following services.
