Walter Elmerand Ball, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his home.
Walter was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Idaho Falls to Willard J. Ball and Ethel Singley Ball. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Ammon High School. He served as a rifleman in the U.S. Army 274th Infantry Regiment during World War II.
Walter lived briefly in California, but spent most of his life in Idaho Falls. He worked in a brick yard, a chicken yard and as an instrument repairman for Gay's Music.
Walter loved fishing, hunting, and loved people. He enjoyed small engine repair work and spending time with his friends. He had a giving heart and was known by many.
Walter is survived by his adopted daughter, Jeri McManus of Idaho Falls; sisters, Violet Blake of Bountiful, Utah, Marvelle (Val) Morgan of Idaho Falls, Elmoyne Holbrook of Bountiful, Margene (Dee) Nish of Idaho Falls, Jeneal Wimer of Bountiful and Barbara Wadsworth of Idaho; and 23 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Morris Ball, Elan Ball and Lionel Ball; and three sisters, Ercel Monsen, Laura Buttars and Lorraine Nelson.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Ammon Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday prior to services at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
