William Bowman Obituary

William LaDale Bowman, 81, of Chester, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Madison Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Bowman was born July 3, 1932, in Pocatello, the son of William Earl and Zina Campbell Bowman. He grew up and attended his schooling in Idaho, graduating from Sugar-Salem High School.

While in high school, he was active in the band, playing the tuba. He also attended Merced College in California, where he received an Associate of Arts degree.

He married Wilma Jeanne Williams on Jan. 16, 1952, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

William served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, serving in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged.

He and Wilma made their home in Merced, where William worked for the Merced Fire Department. After his retirement in l988, they moved to Chester, where they have since resided.

He was active in the LDS church. He and his wife served stake missions in California and Idaho. They also served as temple officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple.

William enjoyed camping, fishing, musical instruments and old cars.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Chester; children, Eric (Carmen) Bowman of Topeka, Kan., David (Sabrina) Bowman of Chester, Ill., LuAnn Bowman of Rexburg and Kevin (Lynette) Bowman of Santaquin, Utah; one sister, Shirley (Bruce) Hilton of Saratoga, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Delynn Bowman; one sister, Donna Wellard; and brothers, Gail, Edward, Keith and two babies.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the Ashton LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Michael McDonald of the Chester ward officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Bidwell Funeral Home in St. Anthony and at 10 a.m. Monday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the St. Anthony VFW and American Legion.
