Albert J. "Bert" Velletri

MILLBROOK - Albert J. (Bert) Velletri, 95, a lifelong resident of Millbrook, NY died Sunday, March 16th at the Sharon Hospital, Sharon, CT.

Born in Millbrook on June 20, 1918, he was the son of Joseph Velletri, Sr. and Mary Rotunno. Bert was a graduate of the Millbrook High School. He served his country with the U. S. Army during World War II in France, Italy and Africa. Following WW-II, Bert returned to work in the Millbrook IGA where he had also worked during and after high school for James Dunn. Bert became the proprietor of the meat department continuing until the IGA store closed in 1972. Bert then worked as a butcher for the Grand Union until his retirement in 1983. Bert was also a co-owner of the Millbrook Men's Shop, well known for its fine men's clothing and riding apparel.

On October 21st, 1973 Albert J. Velletri and Mary Gallucci were married in Pleasant Valley, NY at St. Stanislaus Church. Mrs. Velletri survives at home.

Bert was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Millbrook, NY. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Millbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9008 and Millbrook American Legion Post 260. He was a past member of the Millbrook Business Association and the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club. Bert just celebrated his 75th year as a member of the Millbrook Fire Co.

Bert was a devoted husband to his wife, Mary, and a loving and fun uncle and cousin. In addition to his wife, Bert is survived by his aunt, Theresa Rotunno; his nieces and nephews Louise Velletri and Richard Velletri (Carolyn) of Virginia, Judy Velletri (Susan Gregory), Joseph Velletri, III (Kathleen) and Joanne Velletri of Millbrook; his great nephew, Joseph Velletri, IV of Rhode Island; his sister-in-law, Barbara Velletri of Millbrook; brothers-in-law Charles and George Gallucci of Florida and his cousins, Madeline Knalfa, Marguerite, Teresa, Andrew and John Rotunno, Mary Theresa Soyka, Katherine York and Fran Rotunno Fish. He was predeceased by his brothers Louis J. Velletri and Joseph J. Velletri.

Visitation will be on Wed., March 19th from 5 - 8 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Avenue, Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thur., March 20th at 1 pm at St. Joseph's Church, North Avenue, Millbrook. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Church.
