POUGHKEEPSIE - Alexander "Duke" M. Turowski, 94, passed away February 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, he was born on December 21, 1918 to Martin and Leona Wilcenski Turowski. On June 20, 1943 he married Helen C. Dudek at St. Joseph's Church in Poughkeepsie. She survives at home. Duke served in the U.S. Navy Seabee's in the Pacific during WWII. He was a Captain in the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department until his retirement in 1981. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, a life member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #275 and The Polish American Citizens Club #363. Duke was also a member of The Retired International Association of Firefighters. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Stephen & Gayle Turowski of Poughkeepsie; daughter and son-in-law Alexis & Thomas Brodhead of Livingston, MT; his brother Stanley "Stas' " Turowski of Clearwater, FL; sister Teresa Taylor of Denver, CO; granddaughter Erin Turowski, her finance Philip Castiglione and four nephews. Duke was predeceased by his son Reverend William M. Turowski, his brother William R. Turowski, his sisters Marion Turowski and Joan Turowski Frey. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at St. Joseph's Church in Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 9 Lafayette Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or to Hospice, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
