Formerly of Wappinger Falls - Alfred William Muir, Sr., 84, of Boydton, VA and formerly of Gold Road in Wappingers Falls, entered into rest at his home on Sunday, August 17, 2014 with his family by his side. Al was born in Ridgewood, NJ on December 28, 1930. In 1953, Al caught the eye of a beautiful young woman named Margaret (Peggy) Goodrich in church and drove her home in his 1952 Ford Victoria. They were married on June 13, 1954. Al & Peggy, along with their children, celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary earlier this summer. Al proudly served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952 and retired from IBM in East Fishkill in 1992 after almost 40 years of dedicated service.
In addition to his "beautiful bride" as he affectionately called her of 60 years, Al is survived by sons Steven Muir and wife Claudia of Coatesville, PA, Alfred Muir, Jr. and wife Wendi of Hyde Park, NY and daughter Jean McCall and husband William of Boydton, VA. Al, also known as Pop-Pop to some very special folks, is survived by his loving and adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom he was very proud of and loved dearly. Al was preceded by his parents and brother, Andy. Our family wishes to express our deep gratitude to his loyal and tireless caregiver, his beloved wife Peggy. Her love and care brought Al immeasurable comfort and peace during his final days.
Those he leaves behind will honor what he has taught through his example; spending time with family and shooting the breeze with a good story. Al was a loving and devoted husband, outstanding father and amazing man. He will be loved and missed forever. You hit it out of the park Dad! Great job!
A celebration of Al's life will take place at a later date.
