Chester Albert Mason, Sr.

Mahopac - Chester Albert Mason, Sr., a Putnam County Resident since 1974, formerly of Ossining, died at the Gaylord Specialty Center in Wallingford, CT on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. He was 85.

Son of the late Leonard Mason, Sr. and Elsie Haight Mason, he was born in Peekskill on August 18, 1928. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for two years. In 1948, he then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict, being honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1952. Several years later, he joined the Army National Guard and was discharged in 1956.

For 30 years, he worked as a truck driver for Grand Union, retiring in 1988. Chester had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, lasting up until a few years ago.

In 2000, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia. He was also predeceased by his brother, Leonard Mason, Jr.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Mark Mason (Jeanette) of Danbury, CT, Chester Mason, Jr. (Holly) of Palm Coast, FL, Lois Mastropole (Robert) of Mahopac, Joseph Mason (Stacey) of Wappingers Falls, Julie Zaccaro (Frank) of East Fishkill, and Debbie Curtin of East Fishkill; his grandchildren, Chrystal, Faith, Alyssa, Ashlyn, Chettie, Max, Robert, Nicholas, Joseph, Zoey, Frankie, Paige, Cory, T.J., and Jake; his brother, Arthur Mason, Sr. of Cold Spring; and his sister, Virginia Mowbray of Hopewell Junction. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 22 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A service will begin at 5 p.m., immediately following the calling hours. A committal service with Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24 at St. Mary's Cemetery, 114 Sprain Rd., Yonkers, NY.
