Hyde Park - D. George Buso, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, died Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie after a short illness. He was 89.
He was born in Mottville, N.Y. on January 28, 1924 to George and Anna (Huta) Buso.
He was a 1941 graduate of Skaneateles, New York High School, a graduate of Oswego State Teachers College in 1948, and earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Maryland in 1951.
George proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Navy Reserves as a pilot in multiengine air-sea rescue seaplanes. His love of aviation continued for his entire life in the form of radio controlled model aircraft. George was well known nationally and internationally for his expertise in building, flying, and the management of world level flying competitions. After graduating from Oswego State, he taught Industrial Arts at Delaware Academy, which is located in Delhi, NY. An example of his progressive attitude towards education is expressed in a message penned on the back of a 1950 graduating senior's photo: " Mr. Buso: Thanks for talking De into letting me take Shop. I have really enjoyed it a lot besides what I have learned. I hope I haven't bothered the boys too much. Hope you have more girl Shop students."
George retired from I.B.M. Corp. in 1984 after a career in management education and human resources both domestic and international.
On August 17, 1946 he married Olive J. Shapley who preceded him in death in July of 2004.
Survivors include three children: Catherine (Cathy) Hirsch and Family of Dunellen, N.J., Donald and Family of Campton, N.H. , and Steven and Family of Elizaville, N.Y. ; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great granddaughter ; two sisters, Mildred Glaze of Fairport, N.Y. and Irene Akers of Morrisville, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, November 22nd. at St. James' Episcopal Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. An informal reception will immediately follow the church service at the parish hall.
Donations in memory of George Buso may be made to Saint Francis Health Care Foundation, 241 North Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601-5000.
