Edward J. Adams

Delmar - Edward (Eddie) John Adams, 95, resident of the Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center, Delmar, NY passed away peacefully on August 1, 2014.

Edward was a devoted son, husband and father. He was born in 1918 in Beacon, NY, the son of William and Anelia Adamowicz. He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Joseph Adamowicz. Edward graduated from Beacon High School and then enlisted in the Navy in 1939, serving through November 1945. He married Frances Theresa Dziminowicz in 1946. Frances passed away in 2005. They settled in Poughkeepsie where Edward worked for IBM and raised a family. He retired in 1977 after which he enjoyed searching garage sales with his wife for antiques. In 2007, he moved to an assisted living facility in Delmar, NY to be near his daughter.

Edward was very proud of his Naval service where he earned numerous medals. He left the Navy as Chief Radioman and served on the USS Trippe, USS Ancon and USS Wheatland. He was the first onboard his ship to learn that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. His activity during World War II included serving in North Africa, Sicily, Salerno, Normandy, and the D-Day Landings. He always had stories to share about his time in the service.

Edward is survived by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) McGuirk, son-in -law, Jim McGuirk and grandson, Sean McGuirk. His younger daughter, Patricia (Trish) LeSoine predeceased him in September of 2013.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 10:00am to 12noon at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie at 12:30pm. Entombment will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Mausoleum.

His daughter will be eternally grateful for the Lutheran Care Network, who took care of her mother at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie and Edward at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Delmar.
