POUGHKEEPSIE - Gennaro Scafa age 87 died thursday May 23rd at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Gennaro (Gene) Scafa was born on April 25th,1926. He was the son of the late Oreste Scafa and Concetta (Tina) Conte.Gene was a graduate of St Peter's school and graduate of Poughkeepsie high school. Gene proudly served in the United States army during World War II and then went on to serve in the Us Merchant Marine's. Gene married his wonderful wife Gloria Costa on March 17th 1959.

Gene worked and retired from the Us Postal Service and served as the president of the APWU American Postal Workers Union. In Gene's spare time you could find him on a golf course or watching a game of golf on TV. Along with his passion forgolf Gene and his wife Gloria loved traveling and dancing. Gene was a member of the Italian Center for many years, and a 22 year member of the Elks Club. In addition to his wife Gloria of over 50 years he is survived by 2 stepchildren Carl(Laurie) Wilson Debbie(Paul) Washburn grandchildren: Lori(Rob) Rolison, Lynette(Jim) McHugh, Christopher and Jesse Wilson, and also 2 great grandchildren James and Meghan Mchugh. He is also survived by his sister Kay Taliber.He was predeceased by his brother Frank and sister Agatha. Visitation will be Thursday, May 30, 2013 4-8 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 9:30 AM in Mt. Carmel Church, 11 Mill St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial Donations amy be made to D.C.
