Henry A. Graham

POUGHKEEPSIE - Henry A. Graham, 89, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Born on January 16, 1925 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Kelsey duBois Graham and Frances Odell Graham, both of Poughkeepsie. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 1943. Henry served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was based in various locations throughout the country. Following his time in the service, he attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie and Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY on the GI Bill. He graduated from Hartwick with degrees in education and mathematics, and received his Masters from SUNY at Albany. Upon graduating from college, Henry taught math at Sidney High School in Sidney, NY for two years. The balance of his career was his thirty-one years as a math teacher and department coordinator at Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie.

In 1946, he married Janice Eva Drew, his high school sweetheart, and they celebrated their 67th anniversary this past August.

Henry was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer, and one of his many accomplishments was building the house that he and Janice raised their family in, and where they resided for the last fifty-five years.

In addition to his wife Janice, Henry is survived by his son; Stephen Graham and daughter-in-law Nancy of West Stockbridge, MA, daughters; Cynthia Fay of Fall River, MA, and Suzanne Graham of Poughkeepsie; his grandson, Stephen Graham, Jr. and his wife Caitlin of West Stockbridge,MA; his granddaughter, Carrie Graham of Shrewsbury, MA; his great grandson, Braden Henry Graham of West Stockbridge,MA; brother, Kelsey D. Graham Jr. and his wife Suzanne of South Nyack, NY; sister, Priscilla Graham Vandemark, of Poughkeepsie; and Janice's sister, Lola Drew Spalding and her husband Lyle of Louisville, KY. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his infant son, Douglas Graham, his son-in-law, Kevin Fay, and his granddaughter, Allison Graham.

Funeral services will be held 10 am on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Interment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
