Hyde Park - J. Robert Fitzpatrick, DDS, 87, of Hyde Park, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born June 23, 1926 in Brooklyn, Bob was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine Ethel Wylie Fitzpatrick.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Bob received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and his Dental Degree from Columbia University Dental School. A very caring dentist, Dr. Fitzpatrick was in private practice in Hyde Park for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1993. He was loved by his patients.
He was a member of the Golden Age Singers, 9th District Dental Society, Regina Coeli Cursillo group, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6111, Hyde Park.
Dr. Fitzpatrick was a communicant and lector at Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park.
Bob had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, especially his favorite tunes by Frank Sinatra. He was known for his great sense of humor and quick wit.
On June 6, 1953 in Queen of All Saints Church in Brooklyn, he married the former Marilyn Rita Marvin. Their story was an amazing love story. His wife of sixty years survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, Robert Fitzpatrick and wife, Bonnie, of W. Orange, NJ; Brian Fitzpatrick and wife, Lisa, of Fairfield, CT; Gail Fitzpatrick Dowling and husband, Brian, of Fairport, NY; Jeanne Marie Fitzpatrick of Downingtown, PA; Karen Fitzpatrick Tooker and husband, David, of Pleasant Valley; and Mary Ellen Fitzpatrick and partner, Nadia, of Herndon, VA; grandchildren, Matthew Fitzpatrick and wife, Laura; Daniel Fitzpatrick and wife, Amanda; Michael Fitzpatrick; Kevin, Lauren, and Emily Fitzpatrick; Shane, Connor, and Colleen Dowling; Jamie, Jack and Joseph Guda; Shaun and Stephanie Tooker; and Leo and Anna Nolan; beloved sister, Joan Marvin and husband & best friend, Bob, of Rhinebeck; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Marvin of Troy, NY and Shirley Fitzpatrick of Summit, NJ; and scores of loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant twins, Mary Anne and Theresa; infant son, Peter Julian; beloved brother, Richard 'Dick' Fitzpatrick, and best friend and brother-in-law, William 'Bill' Marvin.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, on Saturday, December 14th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM, Sunday, December 15th at Regina Coeli Church , Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Military honors will follow.
Bob's burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Rhinebeck Cemetery.
