E. LONGMEADOW, MA - Joseph A. Brown, 88, of E. Longmeadow, MA. passed away April 28, 2013 at the Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, MA. He was born in Scranton, PA on May 29, 1924 to James A. and Ella Harte Brown. On June 14, 1951 Joseph married Mary E. Heffren in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She predeceased him on January 17, 1997. A longtime Poughkeepsie resident, Joseph received his B.S. degree from the Penn State University in Metallurgy. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a Manager in Purchasing at IBM White Plains, NY until his retirement in 1989. Joseph was a loving husband, father & grandfather. He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law Joseph & Donna Brown of Garden City, NY; daughter Elaine Brown of Cologne, Germany; son & daughter-in-law Mark D. & Theresa Brown of Longmeadow, MA; daughter & son-in-law Joann & Larry Knapp of Poughkeepsie, NY; daughter & son-in-law Patty & John Brown-Christenson of So. Orange, NJ; grandchildren Maxwell, David, Alena, Rory, Conner, Shannon, Clare, Courtney, Taylor, Gillian, Ian, Joel & Gordon. There are several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Margaret Noone & Jane Bishopberger and brothers: James, Thomas & Paul Brown. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 1:30pm at St. Mary's Church, 231 Church St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Following the Memorial Mass there will be a Celebration of Joseph's Life that will be held at the Knapp-Brown residence in Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made to Honor Flight, 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, OH 45505. Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
