Joseph A. Casimir

CHESAPEAKE, VA - Joseph A. Casimir, 86, passed peacefully at Cedar Manor Assisted Living in Chesapeake, VA on April 4, 2013. Joseph was born on Dec. 2, 1926 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Charles Casimiri and Concetta Ferrigana. Joseph married Emma Beers on June 18, 1944 and lived in Poughkeepsie until their retirement in 1981 when they moved to Lakeland, FL. In 2008, Joe and Emma moved to Chesapeake, VA where they resided at Cedar Manor Assisted Living until their deaths.

Joseph retired from the New York State Department of Transportation where he worked in the Accounting and Right Away Departments. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an active member of the American Legion and VFW. He was a Past Commander of American Legion Post 1302. Joseph absolutely loved to fish as well as filet everyones catch.

Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph N. Casimir and daughter-in-law June of Clackamas, OR; his daughter, Elaine M. Spilbor and son-in-law Gary of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Noel Spilbor and wife Kelly of Summerville, SC; Shaun Spilbor and Jessica Webster of Chesapeake, VA; Star Casimir, Jasmine Casimir, Lyndsey Trapp, and Aaron Ridings of Clackamas, OR; great grandchildren, Brandon Spilbor, Brianna Spilbor, Wallace Mays, and Eric Mays of Summerville, SC, and Elijah Spilbor and Piper Spilbor of Chesapeake, VA. Joseph also has three surviving sisters, Rosemarie Horan of Nazerith, PA, Josephine Grund of Mesa, AZ, and Madeline Casimiri of Hyde Park, NY.

Joseph has gone to join his wife of 67 years, Emma Mae Casimir who predeceased him in 2011.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322. Rev. Charles L. Moseley will officiate.
