Martin Davis

NEWBURGH - Martin Davis, 74, a resident of Newburgh since 1978 and formerly of Beacon and Brooklyn, died on Monday, June 30, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh.

Born in Brooklyn on October 9, 1939, he was the son of Elijah and Alice Jackson Davis. Martin proudly served our country in the US Army as a Private First Class during the Vietnam War. He graduated from ITT Tech University in 1976 and was employed as an engineering technician with IBM, East Fishkill for 26 years until his retirement in 1993.

Martin was a member of the International Free & Accepted Modern Masons, Inc. since 1976. He served as the Worthy Master of St. John's #59 and St. Luke's #434, as the District Master of St. Joseph's Lodge, District #8, and as the President of the Joint Council, Council #10. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as the King Solomon of Queen of the South in Newburgh. He also enjoyed playing pool.

On July 6, 1974 in Hampton, SC, Martin married Jo Ann Bauder who survives at home. He is also survived by his twin brother, Marvin Davis of Newburgh; his siblings, Helen Pearl Wells of VA, Shirley Davis of Poughkeepsie, William Paulin of Beacon, Brenda "Pumpkin" Williams of Florida, Hank Paulin of Vails Gate, Ralph "Baby Bro" Paulin of Poughkeepsie and Antonio Gary Davis of Germany; his godchild, Jalese Marshall; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 76 1st Street, Newburgh followed by the Masonic Service at 10:30am and the Funeral Service with Dr. Bruce Davis, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery with military honors.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers and cards of any kind, that donations be made to the food pantry at Castle Point VAMC, 41 Castle Point Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
