Nicholas "Nick" F. Belezos

Poughkeepsie - Nicholas F. "Nick" Belezos, 85, a fifty year resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on September 29, 1928 in Quincy, MA, he was the son of the late Fotios and Kyriacoula Belezos. He graduated from Quincy High School where he was the star quarterback of the football team.

Nick was an army veteran of the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he trained as a computer engineer with IBM, where he worked in Poughkeepsie for 33 years until his retirement in 1990.

Nick met and married within 3 months, Angelica "Kiki" Spylios, his wife of 58 years whom he adored and survives him. He is also survived by his loving children, Franklin Belezos, William Belezos and his wife Diane, Lily Stamper and her husband Andrew, and Carol DiPietro and her husband John, and grandchildren Nicholas Belezos, Lydia Belezos, Cameron Stamper, Christopher Stamper, Joseph DiPietro and Michael DiPietro. He was predeceased by two sisters Helen Tragellis and her husband Gregory, a niece Irene Tragellis and Constance Boulougouras. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Ilias Boulougouras and many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families, whom he loved.

A gifted athlete, Nick played semi-pro football after high school and enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was an active member and volunteer at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. He treasured spending time with his family who meant the world to him. After his retirement, Nick and Kiki enjoyed traveling, particularly to the Pocono mountains. They were inseparable.

Visitation will be Friday, August 15, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Saturday, at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S Grand Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the , HudsonValley, Rockland, Westchester, NY Chapter, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 203, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601-4027.
