RHINEBECK - Norman M. Callaghan Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Born April 30, 1933 in Ridgewood, NJ, he was the son of Norman M. and Kathryn S. Callaghan.

Norman graduated from Pine Plains Central School in 1951. He received his degree in electrical engineering from RPI in Troy, NY.

Following his education and service in the Army during the Korean Conflict, he worked as an electrical engineer for IBM throughout the Hudson Valley.

He was a 20 year member of the American Legion Post #429, former member of the Rhinebeck Rescue Squad and the Rhinebeck Lions Club, member of the Rhinebeck Legion Band, and an avid Amateur Radio Operator(N2AVN).

On July 25, 1954 he married Irene M. Stone of Rhinebeck. Mrs. Callaghan survives at home in Rhinebeck, along with three daughters; Debbie Close and her husband Jay of Greenwich, NY, Sharon Kirker and her husband Richard of Rhinebeck, and Nancy Simpler and her husband Michael of Canon City, Colorado, along with six grandchildren; Morgan, Caley, Christopher, Karen, Majerle, and Kaci. He is also survived by his sister Jo Alison Reichelt , his brother Robert W. Callaghan, and several nephews and a niece.

Calling hours will be Sunday, July 6th, 1 to 3 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Funeral Services will be private.

Interment with Military Honors will be Monday, 10 AM, at the Rhinebeck Cemetery, Mill Rd. Rhinebeck.
