VERO BEACH, FL - Philip C. Collins age 87 of Vero Beach passed away on March 4, 2013 at Indian River Medical Center.
Philip was born to Charles and Anna Collins on July 17, 1925 in Highland, New York. He served proudly in the United Sates Navy. Philip received several medals including World War II Victory, American Theatre Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and European-African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal.
He was a plumber/steam fitter for over 40 years with Local #201. He was a third generation volunteer firefighter in Highland, New York and also a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks in both New York and Florida. Philip was also a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. An avid remote control boat builder and hobbyist. A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for over 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Arleen Collins of Vero Beach, FL; daughter, Pamela Kotofsky and husband Joseph of Elizabethtown, TN; sisters Marie Dumas of Poughkeepsie, NY and Jean Simpson of Highland, NY; two grandchildren Dane Cappola of Virginia and Adam Cappola of TN; one great grandson Justin; several nieces and nephews. Philip was preceded in death by a daughter Cynthia Collins.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1850 Sixth Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960. Services: A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. March 19 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach. Military honors will be provided by the VFW/American Legion Post 3918.
