Beacon - Ralph A. Collins, a lifelong Beacon resident, passed away due to complications of pneumonia on Friday, June 14 at Hudson Valley Hospital, Peekskill with his wife of 69 years and family by his side. He was 95.
Born in Beacon on February 12, 1918 Ralph was the son of the late Bartholomew and Isabelle Goodall Collins. On January 22, 1944 at St. Joachim Church he married the former Mary E. Romanelli. Mrs. Collins survives at home. Ralph was a proud veteran, serving in the Army during World War II in the 7th Armored Division where he was involved with the fighting during the Battle of the Bulge. Ralph retired from the Beacon Post Office after 37 years. Many people will remember him from his 27 years at the window with a friendly greeting or joke. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim - St. John the Evangelist Church where he was an usher and a very active member for over 60 years of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Ralph was a founding member of the Beacon Minor League and was involved with little league. He managed and coached little league Giants for over 15 years.
In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by his sons, Robert Collins of Walnut Creek, California and Gary Collins and his wife, Cathy of Santa Rosa, California. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and James.
The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Old St. Joachim Cemetery.
