Hon. Raymond Andrew Meier

Union Vale - Raymond Andrew Meier, 83, of Union Vale died unexpectedly on August 12, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on June 23, 1931 in Westport, CT he was the son of the late Joseph Meier and Hedwig Elizabeth Grob. Ray proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy during the Korean War.

On January 7, 1954 Raymond married Gloria Schmieder. Ray and Gloria recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by loving family and friends. In 1964 they moved from Ridgewood, Queens to Millbrook, NY where Ray began a 27 year career at IBM East Fishkill. Settling their young family in Union Vale, Ray served his communities as Justice of the Peace in Union Vale from 1972 to 1988 and as acting Justice for the Village of Millbrook for 25 years, retiring in 2012. He was a past member of the Union Vale Fire Department and served as a 4H leader and little league coach. Ray was a man of strong faith who lived his life with integrity and honor. A gentler and kinder soul you will not find.

An avid gardener he enjoying many passions including, fishing, wine making, model railroads, monarch butterflies and remote control sail boating. His family was the center of his world and in addition to his wife Gloria he is survived by his daughter Laura Hurley and her husband Joe of Millbrook, his son Joe and his wife Sherene of Union Vale, his daughter Catherine and her partner John of Union Vale, and his son Mike and his partner Karen of Red hook. Ray also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Craig, Alyssa, and Evan Hurley and Tyler and Claire Dahlin, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends to whom he was always patient, steadfast and reliable "Uncle Ray".

Calling hours will be held at the Allen Funeral Home in Millbrook on Friday August 15th from 5 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday August 16th from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Immediately following at noon a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook, where Raymond served as a past Eucharistic minister. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Millbrook.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Vale Rescue Squad or the charity closest to your heart. "In the arms of the angles you will forever rein, Your Honor."
