Richard A.

HYDE PARK - Richard Fenwick, age 75, passed peacefully with his loving family by his side, on Monday, May 7, 2012, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Richard was born on July 27, 1936, in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Dorothy (Robinson) and Paul Fenwick. He graduated from Arlington High School, Florida Southern University, and served in the United States Army.

In July, 1959, he married Patricia Lynch. They later divorced.

He joined IBM in 1961 and quickly rose through the ranks to many high-level positions including Director, Information Systems, Strategy, & Technology.

In 1967, he married Virginia (Saitta) Craig, and in 1973 they moved to Hyde Park.

In his 28-year career, Richard was best known for his extraordinary ability to coach and encourage his co-workers, helping them to reach for and achieve their highest potential. He led teams who often achieved their goals "against all odds" and who now look back at those days as the most memorable times in their lives.

In his personal life, he was everyone's cheerleader, always believing and convincing you that you could be anything you wanted to be. His rallying cry was "fly or die." He lived life to the fullest and cherished and maintained many, many lifelong friendships. As his time approached, his wife heard, "he was the brother I never had" or "he was the best manager I ever had" over and over again.

His wife Virginia was the love of his life and he was totally devoted to her. He had the good fortune to retire at an early age and spent many wonderful days travelling in Europe, across the United States, to many national parks, and just enjoying his life.

Richard is survived by his wife Virginia, his sons, Richard Fenwick and wife Nancy of Ballston Lake, NY and Paul Fenwick of St. Marys, Kansas, his daughter Allison (Craig) Ober and husband Stuart of Woodstock, NY, his sister, Janet Hill, of Tilton, New Hampshire, his grandchildren, Bradley Fenwick, Tayler Fenwick, Erik Michaels-Ober, and Alexander Ober, and his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother and father, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Madeline Fenwick, and his brother, Paul Roger Fenwick.

Arrangements have been made by the William G. Miller and Son Funeral Home, Poughkeepsie, NY. A celebration of Richard's life will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery with the burial immediately following.

The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding and compassionate care they received from the nurses of the South Circle 5 oncology unit at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. As such, they request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in the name of Richard A. Fenwick be made to the Foundation for Vassar Brothers Medical Center, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
