Dover Plains, NY - Robert H. Schollmeyer, 80, of Dover Plains, NY formerly for Yonkers, NY, entered into rest on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mr. Schollmeyer owned and operated Bob's Glass Shop in Yonkers, NY for 36 years retiring in 2000.
Born on November 26, 1932 in Yonkers, NY he was the son of the late William A. and Sarah (Turner) Schollmeyer. Mr. Schollmeyer attended Yonkers Schools and graduated from Saunders Trade School. Mr. Schollmeyer proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1949 - 1952 and was active duty from February of 1952 to December of 1953 as a forward gunner on the USS-LSMR 517. On November 7, 1965 he married the love of his life Andrea Koblosh who survives at home. They recently celebrating 48 years of wedded bliss.
In March of 1965 Mr. Schollmeyer opened Bob's Glass Shop in Yonkers, NY. They were known as the "A-Team" repairing cars and doing custom mirror and table top work. He loved a challenge and repaired many wrecked cars back to their original self. He also loved riding the roads on his 1965 Harley Davidson and driving his 1959 Jaguar XK150. He also enjoyed making models of planes and cars and whenever he could he added models of old cars, trucks and planes to his collections.
Mr. Schollmeyer enjoyed flying and after receiving his pilot's license purchased his own Piper Cherokee Plane. He and his wife enjoyed flying to many different airports and meeting new people. He was proud and honored to be a member of the White Plains Hanger Quiet Birdsman; attending their meetings and going to their functions. He also enjoyed boating on the Hudson River with his wife and owned many boats. He was also a very active member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary based in Tarrytown and spent hours paroling the Hudson River and inspecting boats for safety. He was a member of the Yonkers Canoe Club, Ludlow Marina, Tarrytown Boat Club and Tarrytown Marina. He was also a member of the Diamond Thistle Lodge #555, the Haverstraw Elk's Lodge #877 both of which he and his wife enjoyed going to all their functions.
In addition to his wife, Andrea, he is survived by his faithful companions Mully McGuire, Mork and Mindy; a sister-in-law, Pat Delango and her husband, Joseph; two nieces, Donna and Laura; three nephews, Michael, Vinny and Dominick and many cousins and friends who all will miss him dearly. Besides his parents, Mr. Schollmeyer was predeceased by a brother, William A. Schollmeyer, Jr. and his sister, Jean Zuluski.
He was a kind, generous, and talented man who always had a smile on his face and was ready to tell you a funny joke or two to make you laugh. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his wife. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Astrauskas, Dr. Soucier and Dr. Kruger and also the entire staff of Sharon Hospital for their kindness and compassion. An added thanks to the many family members and wonderful friends for all their love and support towards the Schollmeyers.
