Poughkeepsie - Salvatore J. Balassone, 83, also known as Sam, Rusty, Sonny, Sal & Reds, died peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2013, in the same Mill Street home in which he was born.
A lifelong resident of Dutchess County, he was born on January 10, 1935 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Vincent & Antoinette (Liotto) Balassone.
A graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, an Army veteran, and a dedicated employee of IBM for nearly 40 years, he was an avid golfer who loved spending time with his friends and family, entertaining them with his wonderful sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Adeline, George, Anthony & Joseph Balassone; and his infant son, Christopher.
He is survived by his children Rick & Georgine Balassone, and her partner, Ellen Newberry; grandchildren Emmett, Mason, & Gabriel Balassone; his partner of 36 years, Mary McCagg, her son John Critelli & his daughters Amanda & Kayla; sisters-in-law Marie Balassone & Alice Balassone; nieces Joanne Balassone, Gail Egan (husband Shane), Leah Balassone, Claudia Biggie, Liz St. Leger, Annette Balassone, Phyllis West (husband Rad), & Susie Buck; nephews Tony Balassone & Frank Tortorici; & many other cousins, great nieces & nephews, including Shane & Emily Egan, Joe St. Leger (wife Jen), Kristin & Larry Biggie, & Erin & Joe Carlini, and great-great nephew and niece Grant and Jillian St. Leger. He is also survived by his former wife, Eleanor Maggio Balassone.
He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew, loved, and laughed with him.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
