91, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2014. He was born in Owego, NY on December 11, 1922 and relocated to Raleigh, NC in 1965. Dick was a Master Sgt in the Air Force during WWII from 1941-1945 and was shot down over Germany and was captured by the Germans October 14, 1943. He was liberated at the end of the War. He received the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Dick retired from IBM in 1985 after 25 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beverly Howell of Raleigh; his son Richard T. Howell of Wilmington, NC; daughters Jane Olsen of Raleigh and Susan Howell of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren Heather Essary (Jason) of Seminary, MS, Kyle Olsen of Raleigh, Chris Olsen (Blades) of Raleigh, and Richard T. Howell Jr. of Denver, CO ; three great-granddaughters Tara Nicholas, Erika Nicholas, and Anna Nicholas all of Seminary, MS; and one great-great-granddaughter Kyleigh Laine Nicholas of Seminary, MS. He is preceded in death by his father Art Howell, mother Ruth Howell, and sister Marjorie Dodzweit. Our sincere gratitude to Cindy Howell for her unending support to our family. We would also like to extend a special thanks to the Hospice Team. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 15th, at Benson Memorial UMC, 4706 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh at 2:00pm and a reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
