Arturo (Arthur) Mancini Obituary
Mancini, Arturo (Arthur)

Arturo (Arthur) Mancini, 80, passed away on Friday, November 15th, at home with his family by his side. Arturo was born in Porrino, Italy, son of the late Angelo and Santina Mancini. Arturo had a remarkable and full life and leaves a host of family and friends who will miss his smile, laughter, jokes, and loving presence. He was a wonderful father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He immigrated to America in 1947 with his family and upon his arrival began working with his father at an Italian restaurant in Binghamton, NY. He joined the Navy during the Korean Conflict and traveled the world as part of a good will tour. He worked on construction for Link Aviation and with the railroad before opening a pizzeria. Mancini's Pizzeria was a great local place for friends to come and eat, play cards, laugh, and create memories. In 1967 he began a 30 year career with the US Post Office. He knew everyone's name and address and was invited into many homes throughout his career. Arturo was an avid hunter, a volunteer firefighter, and belonged to the Kirkwood Sportsman Club where he met most of his lifelong friends. He had a great passion for music and loved listening to his Italian songs. Arturo is the loving father of two children, Michael (Shelly) Mancini of Whitney Point, NY and Lisa Mancini (Matthew Skaarup) of Guilderland, NY. He is the grandfather of Sierra Mancini of Binghamton, NY, step-grandfather to Brandon and Brooke Stanton of Whitney Point, NY, and step-great-grandfather of Landon Stanton of Whitney Point, NY. He is survived by his two loving sisters, Maria (Gabriel) Mancini and Michelina (Gino) Marra of Long Island, NY and many cherished nieces and nephews. Also dear to Art were his best friends, Larry and Marie Holt and companion, Margaret Kalka. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Kingham and Dr. George Getrajdman of Memorial Sloan Kettering, Philip Sternklar of Albany Gastroenterology, Dr. Maria Pesquera, and Dr. Jorge Cerda, all dedicated physicians with an excellent bedside manner. The family would also like to thank the dedicated staff at the Community Hospice, as well as the nurses of 5 Nolan at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, November 22, 2013, at 8:45 a.m. from the James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, NY and continue at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco & Son Funeral Home Thursday, November 21st, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
