Charles A. Adams Obituary
Adams, Charles A.

Johnson City: 89, of Johnson City, NY peacefully went to sing hymns and play golf in heaven on Saturday, December 29, 2012. Chuck is survived by Audrey, his loving wife of 65 years; sister Lenore; brother Joe; four sons Jim, Rick, Larry, and Doug; daughter in law Myrtle Lee; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. For 42 years Chuck worked for IBM in Endicott, NY. He started as a timekeeper and became manager of the tool engineering department, and manager of the manufacturing research department for the development of printed circuits for computers. During World War II, Chuck served in the US Navy aboard the USS Essex in the Pacific. He was awarded the distinguished flying cross, copper star, silver star and gold star. As an aviation radioman, rear gunner, and aerial photographer, Chuck flew sitting backwards in Curtis-Wright Helldivers. He was a member of the record-breaking "fabled fifteen" air group VB-15. A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. Beloved Chuck had a gift for sharing his smiles, handshakes, hugs, and joyfulness with every child and adult he met. He gladly shared his amusing stories, knowledge, skills, poems, compassion, prayers, and personal time. Chuck was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, church officer, real estate agent, carpenter, and community volunteer. He was a swimmer, baseball player, football player, bean bag player, basketball coach, bowler, a persistent golfer, and a caddy for professional golfers at the B.C. Open. Many people express their desire to "be like Chuck" - patient, honest, creative, thoughtful, kind and inspiring. Funeral services will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorial contributions to Calvary United Methodist Church, 3505 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal, 13850. Arrangements are by the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., Johnson City.
