Died peacefully Tuesday in the arms of his devoted wife, Rita. Chuck is predeceased by his parents, Ransom and Eloise Franklin; brother, Donald; niece, Allie Franklin and his two little buddies, Sam and Buster. Besides his wife, partner and friend Rita Smith-Franklin, Chuck is also survived by his loving children, Matthew (Colleen) Franklin, Jennifer (Efrain) Hernandez and Holly Smith (Chris Comparetta) as well as his grandchildren Ashley Japhet, Brandon Japhet, Julianna and Jordan Hernandez, Hannah and Madeline Franklin, Hailey and Carley Comparetta and one great granddaughter, Abigail Japhet. Also surviving is his brother, Jim Franklin and sister, Marsha (Jack) Finnegan; special cousins and close friends, Oz Pendell and the Gillette Family along with many special in-laws, dear families and exceptional friends. Chuck was retired from the Whitney Point School District as Director of Transportation. He continued to drive school bus and was honored to transport children with special needs to and from school each day. Every child he transported he held near and dear to his heart. Chuck also worked part time for dear friends Mel and Matt Manassee and Family and in his earlier years, Bill Nichols at Nichols Funeral Home as well as Agway and Les Strong Construction. Chuck was a member and Past Chief of the Whitney Point Fire Department, past member of the Whitney Point Emergency Squad where he earned his Stork pins for delivering two healthy babies, NYS Fire Chiefs Association, Whitney Point Village Board, Member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 974, Whitney Point, Past President and board member of the Broome County Fair Association, Past President of the NYS Fair Managers Association, International Association of Fairs and Expositions and New York State's first "Fair person of the Year" award recipient. Chuck was also the New York State Show Peoples Association's first fair recipient to be awarded the "fair person of the year." Chuck was the Chairperson for the Broome County Fair Special Kids program, a position he held with great pride. Chuck loved being in the Whitney Point School Community Productions, taking the top off his jeep and riding through the country side visiting friends with his bagpipe and Celtic music blaring over hill and dale. His fun adventures with his tank, and swimming with the dolphins were among many of his unique activities. His beaming smile and hearty laugh will be forever remembered by all. Calling hours will be Friday June 21 5PM-8PM and Saturday June 22 9:30AM - time of service at 11AM at the Nichols Funeral Home. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Chuck's nephews Brian and Kevin Finnegan and Ryan Franklin, and special friends Jules Jr., Artie and Jerry Gillette, Brian Pratt, Matt Collins and Chad Calice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Whitney Point Fire Department, Sons of the American Legion Post 974 Whitney Point, Broome County Fair Special Kids Program or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
