Chester Joseph Kolenda of Johnson City, NY died on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Good Shepherd Fairview Home in Binghamton. He was a member of St. James Parish. He was predeceased by the love his life, his wife Dorothy (Borkosky), who died in 1985. He was also predeceased by two brothers; John and Joseph Kolenda. He is survived by his three children and their spouses; Tom and Martha (Kolenda) Roberts of Glendale, AZ, Christopher and Pat Kolenda of Yonkers, NY and Mike and Jennifer (Kolenda) Hyder of Jericho, VT. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren. Chet was born in Dickson City, PA to the late John and Jennie (Wietrzykowski) Kolenda. Growing up in Dickson City, he loved to play sports, especially baseball. Having come from a musically inclined family; he developed his skills playing the accordion. He graduated from Dickson City High School. Chet was proud to have served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. After returning home, he attended Johnson School of Technology in Scranton and graduated in 1959. Chet and Dorothy were married in 1960 and moved to Johnson City where they raised their family. After a long career in a technical trade he retired from NYSEG in 1994. He became involved in the American Legion, VFW and the Knights of Columbus after retirement. Chet was blessed to have enjoyed his retirement years and especially enjoyed golfing whenever and wherever he had the opportunity. He was especially happy to make custom golf clubs for his grandsons so they could learn the game and join him on the greens. The family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd Fairview Home for their capable, compassionate service to us. Visiting hours will be held Monday, June 16, 2014, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main St, Johnson City, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, 11:30 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 155 Main St, Johnson City, NY. Rest in peace Dad. "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away" Rev. 21:4
