Kirkwood: Francis (Fran) G. Spaulding, 70, passed away on March 12, 2013 after a long battle with COPD. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Gwen (Lynne) Spaulding, whom he called his "rock", his dear children: daughter Kristi Schilloff and husband Andy, and Scott Spaulding and wife Nicole. Also surviving are his two precious grandsons, Gannon and Carter Spaulding, who were the light of Pop-pop's life. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Jackie Mazalook and Anne Spaulding, brother-in-law Mark Ditewig, his special niece Megan Ditewig who coined his name of "cranky-franky", his Aunt Babe (Ilda Scott), special cousins Linda and John Nolan and several other cousins, nieces and nephews along with his "grand dogs" Sally and DJ. The family would like to thank all his dear family members, friends, neighbors, Dr. Gupta and co-workers who helped in his care in so many ways. Special thanks to Marita Florini, NP, Richard Baron, MD, and our wonderful hospice crew of Peggy, Michelle, Dixi and Stephanie who took excellent care of him. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a dedicated patriot who loved the U.S.A. Fran was employed as a graphic arts salesman for 25 years for Onondaga Litho. and held numerous sales positions. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His happiest moments were hunting with his son and friends, and boating and fishing on the St. Lawrence River or at Page Lake. He was a devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed, but he will be remembered for his zest for life and in his own words: " I had a good life". At his request there will be no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held at the Elks Club in Kirkwood at a later date. Contributions in his honor may be made to Lourdes Hospice or the Broome County Animal Shelter. Please share memories, photos and condolences @ www.hefuneralhome.com .
