James R. Green, age 90, of Delaware City, formerly of Oneonta, NY, passed away on June 19, 2014. He was the son of the late William and Gladys (Hume) Green. Born and raised in Oneonta, NY, James graduated from Oneonta High School and had also attended Hartwick College for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. James was a true entrepreneur, who was always a man of his word. Before retiring, he had several successful businesses. For many years, James owned the Putnam Motors, then he owned Charles Stationery on Main Street in Oneonta, NY. James had been a lifelong member of the Oneonta Rotary Club. He and his wife were members of the Oneonta Country Club, where they enjoyed playing golf and doubles tennis together. They were also members of NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness), which gave them great assistance and support for their daughter, Susan. After his heart surgery, James also started a heart club in Oneonta. James's greatest enjoyment was taking road trips and picnicking with his family. He also was an avid trout and bass fisherman and enjoyed cheering on his NY Yankees and NY Giants. In his spare time, James was an avid reader, whose favorite magazines were: Time, National Geographic, Smithsonian and Catskill Country. He will be remembered for his quick wit, as well as his happy demeanor. James was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Nona (Shotwell) Green; his daughter, Susan Meagher; his son-in-law, Tom Meagher; as well as his two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, LaRetha Osborn (Jonathan); his grandchildren, Jonathan Osborn (Szuhua), and Sarah Gerkens (Henry H. Gerkens, IV); and his great grandchildren, Lily Anna Osborn, Henry H. Gerkens, V, Grace Gerkens and Christian James Gerkens. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16 from 11 AM to 12 Noon at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Binghamton, NY 13901, where a memorial service will begin at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Whitney Point, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NAMI, P.O.
