Champlin, John R. (Jack)

John R. (Jack) Champlin, Ed.D passed away May 6, 2013. He was born in Newburgh, NY on December 18, 1926. After spending four years as a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers he served his country with distinction during the Korean War. Upon returning home he embarked on a long and distinguished career in education ending as Superintendent of Schools in Johnson City, NY for 11 years. He then went on to consult with many school districts throughout the country. He leaves behind his wife, Joan of Scottsdale, AZ, sons John and family of Amarillo, TX, Geoffrey and family of Austin, TX and Martha Williams and family of Downingtown, PA. Dr. Champlin holds a Bachelor of Arts from Drew University, Madison, NJ where he was inducted into their Baseball Hall of Fame, Master of Arts from Montclair New Jersey State College and Doctorate of Education from University of Massachusetts at Amherst and additional graduate work at New York University. In 1982 Dr. Champlin was presented with the first Leadership of Learning Award bestowed to the single superintendent nationally who made the greatest contribution to student learning.
