Wood, Ralph Vernon

Heaven just got a great addition on Saturday, August 2, 2014! Ralph Vernon "Chub" Wood, 91, also known as Poppy, born March 31, 1923 in Boyds Mills, PA, shared his eternal optimism, genuine love for his family, and stunning sense of self with his loving wife of 50 years and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Carole (Hull) and his children, Gary Wood (Gail), Glen Wood (Diane), Joseph Kalet (Margaret), Michelle Freelove (John), Brian Wood (Mary) and Carrie Ann Charpinsky (Bob), his 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Ralph served in the Coast Guard during World War II and was the second generation owner of Wood's Auto Wrecking on Upper Court Street; he was also a member of the Windsor Masonic Lodge. He was frequently found riding his John Deere tractor, mowing for hours, and was the self-proclaimed "richest man on earth" because of his family. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. at the Fischer-Scholder Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Chenango Street with the Rev. Shane Cook officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to , Southern Tier Regional Office, Nichols Notch, 401 Hayes Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
