Baldi, Raymond II

Raymond Baldi II, 84, a longtime resident and former mayor of Walton, passed away early Saturday morning, May 5, 2012, at Binghamton General Hospital. Ray was born on August 22, 1927 in Binghamton, the son of the late Remigo (Raymond) and Josephine (Grandolini) Baldi. He married the former Dorothy Roe on June 28, 1952 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Walton. She passed away on June 19, 2008. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Ray worked for many years operating L & B Cleaners, providing laundry service and dry cleaning to the people of Walton. He also operated a roller skating rink in Sidney and worked for Crowley's Dairy. Ray was also instrumental in starting a Youth Center in Walton. Ray was the Mayor of Walton from 1985 to 1993. He was a member of the Walton American Legion and VFW, the Knights of Columbus, Walton Fire Dept., and the Fancher Hook and Ladder Company. Ray was truly a family man with raising five children with his wife; they instilled strong family values by keeping close-knit ties with both sides of their family. He also showed what it was like to care for family members as he did for his father, mother, and in-laws. He extended his home to cousins and family on both sides when needed for rest and relaxation. Ray loved visiting with people, especially young people. He was a child himself by providing activity that he enjoys with doing with his children. He is survived by his loving family: three daughters, Laurel (Thomas) Martine, Everett, WA, Barbara (Ted) Lucente, Bethlehem, PA, Stacy Baldi, Orlando, FL; two sons, Raymond (Lisa) Baldi III, Bernville, PA, Bruce A. (Jessica) Baldi, Walton; 8 grandchildren, Aaron & Kyle Martine, Raymond & Kayla Baldi, Regina & Theodore Lucente, Jr., Madison and Elizabeth Baldi; one sister, Gemma Polambi of Binghamton; nieces & nephews, and several cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, George Baldi; and three sisters, Elizabeth Pompeii, Yolanda Forsythe, and Angelina Fanning. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2012, at Saint John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 17-25 Benton Avenue, Walton, NY with the Rev. Edward Golding officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery, with full military honors. Memorial contributions in Ray's memory may be made to the , 5 Oak St., Sidney, NY 13838.
