William K. Distler, 82, of Endwell and a former resident of Newark Valley, passed peacefully on January 1, 2014. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carmella N. Distler; children: Robert (Wendy) Distler, Mark (Darlene) Distler, John (Kathy) Distler, Caryn (Kurt) Johnson, Barbara (David) Distler; grandchildren, Greg, Jenna, Mark, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Kyle and Kaileigh; brothers, James and Ronald Distler; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Florence Distler; and siblings, Wallace Distler, Jr and Bonnie Caggeso. Bill was a wounded veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army for 39 months. He was a graduate of Lock Haven Teachers College and received his Masters in Education from the University of Buffalo. He was dedicated to education, serving as Principal of the Newark Valley High School for 21 years and in Teachers Associations. He also served two terms as Tioga County Legislator, two terms as Tioga County Treasurer; was a Boy Scout Leader; former member of the VFW, American Legion, and Loyal Order of Moose. Bill will be remembered for his great sense of humor. In Bill's honor and memory, his family will be establishing a Newark Valley High School Scholarship Fund. His family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley on Saturday, from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. A memorial service will be held there at 2 PM with Rev. William A.
