Passed quietly in the company of his wife and daughter on August 5th 2013. Born October 22nd 1923 in Winner, South Dakota he was the son of Amelia and George Baker. Upon his mother's passing his father moved the family to Tule Lake California. Alvin, his five brothers and sisters were raised in California. He later served in the Coast Guard on the USS Admiral Hughes transporting troops in World War II. It was during this time he met his wife of 69 years, Evelyn. They had four children; James, Joseph, Richard and Susan who grew up in the Bay Area. Alvin then worked for Pacific Bell Telephone for 36 years. He and his wife lived in Windsor for 28 years after he retired. In 2010 Alvin and his wife moved to Placerville, CA to be closer to their daughter and family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and was an avid sports fan. He also leaves behind three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services will be held in private at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.
