75, of Healdsburg, CA, died Thursday the 4th of July. He was born to the late Ben and Mary Collins, June 9, 1938, in San Francisco, CA. Ben graduated from Healdsburg High School, Santa Rosa Junior College and attended San Francisco State. In 1960 he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was extremely proud to have been a Marine. Ben married Marilyn Nelson in 1962, and they resided in Healdsburg. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary November 10, 2012. Ben was the Master Mechanic for the Warm Springs Damn/Lake Sonoma project in 1970. He also owned and operated Healdsburg Sporting Goods with his wife Marilyn. Ben was very active in Healdsburg and was a member of the City Council for eight years as well as Mayor for a year and a half. He was involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs, Parks and Recreation and various other service organizations. He was also a 45 year member of Operating Engineers Local #3. He was an avid fishermen and loved to travel, his favorite place was Alaska. He enjoyed swimming, spending time with his family and old westerns. Ben is survived by two daughters and four grand-children: Jaclyn Meese, husband Paul and children Crystal, Paige and Connor of Healdsburg as well as Ann O'Reilly, husband Stephen and daughter Audra of San Jose. He was an incredible father and grandfather and he will be missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the . The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Ben's care giver, Jone Baleikorocau. We would also like to thank Hospice for all their support. Per Ben's wishes there will be no funeral
