Passed away in Santa Rosa on January 31, 2013 at the age of 88. Dearly beloved husband of 64 years to Gladys Hitzeman of Rohnert Park; Beloved father of Bonnie Berrett of Rohnert Park, Kathleen Powell (Paul) of San Diego and the late Dalene Joy Kleber; Adored grandfather of five, Ryan (Brooke) Berrett, Dana (Jason) Greiner, Melissa Powell, Adam Powell (Crystal) and Eric Powell (Nadia); loving great grandfather of Bradley, Sean, and Alyssa Greiner and dear uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edgar and Gene, and sisters Ruth Alcala and Lois Brown. Dale was born in Shickley, Nebraska. He served his country proudly in the US Army as a PFC/Medical Corpsman from 1943 to 1945. During his World War II service, he was injured at the age of 18 in Italy, when he stepped on a land mine. He lost his right leg and spent years recovering in military hospitals, undergoing numerous surgeries and extensive rehabilitation. Dale was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, Purple Heart and a Bronze Battle Star. After his military service, Dale owned and operated Francisco Radio and Television in San Rafael for 28 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in San Rafael from 1953-1983. In Santa Rosa, Dale was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for 30 years, past chairman of Lutheran Care for the Aging and former board member for Lutheran Laymen's League of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District. Family and Friends are invited to attend Memorial Services on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 905 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa. Private Inurnment, Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon.
