Died February 1, 2014 in Santa Rosa, Ca. of natural causes at the age of 84. Dr. Erickson was born on October 26, 1929 in Portland Oregon. He lived and went through grade school in Three Lynx, Oregon, moved to Redland, Oregon and graduated from Oregon City High School in 1947. He received his BS and MS from Oregon State University in 1957 and 1958, and his PhD Degree from the University of California, Davis in 1963. He began his professional career with Swift and Company in Chicago in 1963 as a Research Chemist. He left Swift and Company as a Director of Research in 1978. He then took a position with the American Soybean Association (ASA) in St. Louis, Missouri as Director of Technical services in the Market Development Division. While employed by ASA, Dr. Erickson provided technical processing consultation services in 60 countries for the American soybean farmer. Dr. Erickson left ASA in 1992. He began his own consulting business, DJ Consultants, with his wife Judy. DJ Consultants was moved to Santa Rosa, CA in 1996. He belonged to the American Oil Chemists' Society and served as President 1990-1991, American Chemical Society, Institute of Food Technologists, American Association of Cereal Chemists, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, and Alpha Zeta. He served on the US Advisory Committee on Fats and Oils for Codex Alimentarius, Technical Committees for the National Association of Margarine Manufacturers and Institute for Shortening and Edible Oils. He was President of the Board of Directors for the Institute of Management, Illinois Benedictine College and belonged to the Research Directors Association of Chicago. He is the author of 29 publications, wrote for and edited three books and was awarded six patents. One of the latter was for the Swift Butterball self-basting turkey. Dr. Erikson served in the US Army from 1950-1953, serving with the 7th Division in the Korean War, and honorably discharged with a Purple Heart. He is a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Santa Rosa. Judith (nee Usher) survives her beloved husband of 62 years as well as two sons; Michael D. (Linda) and Andrew T. (Stephanie) Erickson, and one daughter Laura E. Halacy; two grandchildren Megan Yee (Will) and Christopher Halacy. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lee E. Erickson, who died in the Korean War, and William P. Erickson. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 4325 Mayette Avenue, Santa Rosa on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the family plot in Springwater, Oregon on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, St. Mark Lutheran Church or the .
