Of Novato, CA passed away June 7, 2014 at the age of 77. Born on April 13, 1937 in Sebastopol, CA to Ben and Grace (Winkler) Abbott (who preceded him). He graduated from Analy High School in 1955, where he was an All-Conference player in football and baseball. Jerry attended Santa Rosa Junior College until 1957, then joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in San Francisco from 1958 to 1960. Jerry went back to school and earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration and Physical Education from Sacramento State University in 1962. He then graduated from Hastings Law School in 1965, where he was editor of the Hastings Law Journal. He was a licensed attorney for 49 years, practicing in Sonoma County and the State of Hawaii. Jerry was also an adjunct professor of law at the University of Hawaii Law School and Empire College of Law. He played baseball throughout his high school and college careers, and was offered a contract to play minor league ball with the Cincinnati Reds organization. He continued his love of the game playing ASA fast-pitch softball and was a proud member of the 1974 Guanella Bros National Championship team, which finished that season with a 110-10 record. Jerry is survived by his wife and best friend, Susan Cohen Abbott, his sisters Dru Miller and Suzanna Abbott, his daughters Shawn Dortch, Jana (Charles) Hunt, and Molly Abbott, step-daughter Allyson (Erik) McMillen, and grandchildren Sajen and Justin Hunt, Heather and Danielle Dortch, and Hunter McMillen. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry's name to the , Sonoma County Humane Society or Meals on Wheels.
